Google Calendar Prediction

Wed Apr 19, 15:02

So, Google Calendar has been our for a little bit. Its pretty awesome. But there is one thing that is missing. A solid way to notify you of events.

Right now, the default way to notify you of an event is a insignificant JavaScript alert box. That does little you no good if you are not looking at the page. Then there is the little problem where they do not have support for verizon cell phones. I have a feeling though that Google is well aware of this and will hopefully address it soon.

Now there are a number of ways that they can address this.

  1. The first and probably most likely way is integration into Google talk. Why not? It already notifies you of emails, I would venture to guess that adding calendar support would not be to much for them to handle.
  2. They could also create an app like Gmail notifier that will run in the tray and holler at you when you have an event.
  3. or they could simply re brand Gmail notifier as Google notifier and do email and calendar all in the same lightweight app.

Who knows what else they will do. I am sure that at some point there will be about 13 different FireFox extensions that will integrate as well. All of them work fine for me, as long as I don’t miss an event again like I did for work today.

Update(4-20): And so it begins! The Calendar API was released today!
